Corporation Yard Relocation
What happened
In June 2025, the City of Ukiah purchased the property at 1 Carousel Lane to serve as its new Municipal Corporation Yard, the central hub for city maintenance operations. This is a key step in the City’s long-term plan to modernize infrastructure and improve how services are delivered to residents.
Why relocate
The current Corporation Yard, located on the east side of Ukiah Municipal Airport (UKI), no longer meets the City’s needs. As Ukiah has grown, so have the demands on the facility, but the existing site is undersized and poorly suited for the range of operations it supports, including fleet and equipment maintenance, street maintenance, and water and wastewater services. The strain has been evident for years. In 2020, the Electric Utility moved to its own standalone facility because the shared site couldn’t support its requirements. The airport location has also created increasing compatibility challenges as the airport works to improve connections to Airport Park Boulevard and attract new tenants.
Why this site
The City evaluated options for new construction, but costs made that approach impractical. 1 Carousel Lane stood out as the most effective solution. The surrounding land uses are compatible with a municipal yard, and the site offers convenient access to North State Street and US 101, supporting efficient routing for city crews and equipment.
Regional coordination
Although outside City limits, the site is centered within the Ukiah Valley Water Authority (UVWA) service area. UVWA is a joint powers authority that aligns the efforts of the City of Ukiah, Millview County Water District, Redwood Valley County Water District, Calpella County Water District, and Willow County Water District to modernize water infrastructure and improve long-term regional access and resilience.
Annexation
Annexation secures jurisdictional control, ensures consistent risk management, supports UVWA service delivery and cost efficiencies, and avoids taxes and assessments that do not apply to public facility parcels within City boundaries under City jurisdiction. The proposal aligns with the City’s 2023 and 2024 annexations of other City-owned sites for public services, continuing the practice of incorporating municipal facilities into City limits when they serve a public purpose.
