Overview

The Ukiah Gigabit Fiber Project is a multi-year initiative to deliver affordable, ultra-high-speed fiber-optic internet to homes, businesses, schools, and community facilities throughout the City of Ukiah. This City-owned, future-ready network will support symmetrical internet speeds of up to 2.3 gigabits per second, strengthening Ukiah’s economy, improving access to essential services, and closing the digital divide.

Phase 1 of the project is funded by approximately $5.7 million from the California Public Utilities Commission’s Federal Funding Account (FFA) Last-Mile Grant. This phase will extend service to 375 currently unserved locations and provide access to a total of 3,000 residences and businesses along the construction routes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will construction disrupt my street?

Construction will follow permitting and safety standards. Most fiber will be installed on utility poles. Where underground installation is required, crews will use directional boring, which is less disruptive than open trenching. Access pits and utility potholing will be used to safely cross existing utilities. Disruptions to streets are expected to be minimal and advanced notifications to residents and businesses will be provided.

Who owns the network?

The fiber infrastructure is owned by the City of Ukiah and operated by Vero Fiber under a long-term lease and operations agreement.

How do I sign up for service?

Residents and businesses can pre-register through Vero Fiber to receive notifications when service becomes available in their area.
