My name is Matt Froneberger, and I’m running for Ukiah City Council because I believe our community deserves leadership that’s accountable, accessible, and experienced.
I’ve spent my entire life in Ukiah. My wife, Dana, and I have been married for 33 years, and we raised our two children here. Today, we’re proud grandparents to one grandchild. I’ve also spent my career in public service, working in water, wastewater, public works, and local government. I know what it means to manage resources responsibly, solve problems, and make sure essential services work for the people who depend on them.
I’m running because I care deeply about the future of Ukiah. I want to bring my experience and practical approach to the City Council, listen to our neighbors, and work toward solutions that make our community stronger for families and future generations.

About Matt
Matt Froneberger has spent his entire life in Ukiah, building his career and raising his family in the community he is proud to call home. He and his wife, Dana, have been married for 33 years and have two adult children and one grandchild. Having grown up here and raised his own family here, Matt understands what makes Ukiah special and the challenges facing the community today.
Matt brings more than three decades of experience in public works, water and wastewater, environmental compliance, and local government operations. He spent more than 14 years with the City of Ukiah, working in Public Works, Public Utilities, and as an Environmental Compliance Inspector, while also serving his hometown through the City of Ukiah Fire Department and Airport Commission. He later held leadership positions with the Town of Windsor, City of Healdsburg, and Forestville Water District, where he served as General Manager from 2012 to 2018. Since 2019, Matt has worked with CAL FIRE as a Water and Sewage Process Operator.
Matt’s commitment to public service extends beyond his professional career. He has served as an elected member of the Russian River Flood Control & Water Conservation Improvement District Board and as an Association of California Water Agencies Region 1 Director. He also represented special districts on the Inland Water & Power Commission and Mendocino LAFCo, giving him valuable experience working with local governments and public agencies on water, infrastructure, and regional planning. Matt has also served on the boards of the Ukiah Valley Youth Baseball League and local booster organizations.
Throughout his career, Matt has managed public resources, developed budgets, overseen infrastructure, worked with regulatory agencies and local businesses, and responded directly to residents’ needs. After a lifetime of service to the Ukiah Valley, he is running for Ukiah City Council to bring his experience, practical knowledge, and commitment to public service back to the community where it all began. Matt believes leadership means listening, being accessible, and being accountable, and he is committed to maintaining essential services, protecting taxpayers, planning responsibly for the future, and keeping Ukiah a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
Matt Froneberger’s Commitments
Matt is committed to practical, responsible leadership that puts Ukiah residents and local businesses first. He will work to keep Ukiah affordable by carefully scrutinizing new fees, taxes, and rate increases; protect and strengthen essential services; invest responsibly in wastewater and other critical infrastructure; and plan for a reliable long-term water supply through storage, conservation, and expanded use of recycled water. He also supports an approach to homelessness that balances compassion with accountability, keeps public spaces safe and accessible, and ensures taxpayer-funded programs are delivering meaningful results.
Matt believes major decisions about Ukiah’s future must be made carefully, transparently, and with meaningful community input. On annexation, he will prioritize protecting existing City services, addressing the concerns of affected residents and businesses, understanding the full financial impacts, and considering a more focused approach where there is greater community support. Across every issue, Matt will bring decades of local government experience and a commitment to listening, working collaboratively, protecting taxpayers, and finding common-sense solutions that keep Ukiah a strong, affordable, and vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family.
